Approval due for £100m hospital homes

A planning application from Elliot Group for 142 flats and more than 1,000 student bedrooms next to the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital is set to be approved by the city council next week.

Elliot Group bought Erskine Industrial Estate next to the hospital from Hope Street Properties last year, and announced it would be planning a residential scheme.

The accommodation at No.01 Erskine will be available for hospital staff, as well as new homes for student nurses and doctors. The project will total 142 one- and two-bedroom apartments for rent to key workers, and 1,007 rooms for students.

The £100m development is set to include yoga studios, residents’ gym, a bar and study zones and aims to push the boundary of the city’s expanding Knowledge Quarter further north.

The Falconer Chester Hall-designed scheme is 14 storeys at its highest point, and is made up of two buildings which will sit either side of public realm.

Elliot Group said that existing tenants of the estate, who are all on short-term, flexible leases, have been contacted to explain the timescales of the development and have been offered professional support to identify new premises.

Liverpool City council’s planning committee will meet on Tuesday 31 January, with the Elliot Group scheme recommended for approval.
