App maker signs at Atlas

mxData, which makes apps using location information for train and travel companies, has agreed to lease 7,000 sq ft for five years at AXA Real Estate’s Atlas Business Park near Manchester Airport.

The app developer will relocate to Atlantic House from Fulshaw Park in Alderley Edge. Eversheds acted as the legal adviser for mxData.

Atlas Business Park comprises 225,000 sq ft of offices and is home to Cable & Wireless, Civil Aviation Authority, Coffey International and Simon Carves.

Dave Thomas, chief operating officer at mxData, said: “In the past 12 months our business has more than doubled its consumer app revenues with the likes of the award winning London Tube, New York Subway, Paris Metro and Shanghai Metro maps, generating in excess of 300 million sessions and six million downloads annually. We have consolidated our position as the world’s number one publisher of public transport apps.

“The new location will provide better commuter access for employees and moves the company closer to Manchester’s talent pool. In addition we can continue to further expand our city metro apps in facilities which better meet the needs of the cutting edge growth business that we are today.”

Mark Canning of letting agent Canning O’Neill, which represented mxData, said: “Despite working to extremely tight timescales, the opportunity to relocate to Atlantic House was too good to miss.

“Atlantic House provides mxData with the facilities, location and space which will support the business’ growth, and as Atlas is located within the Airport Business Zone, my client can take full advantage of the added benefits including Business Rates relief.”

Mark Bamber at Knight Frank, joint agents for the scheme with Bilfinger GVA, said: “With Pacific House already fully occupied and demand for Atlantic House high, Atlas Business Park has been a real success story for the North West and for the Enterprise Zone initiative. This deal means that 16,700 sq ft now remains available in suites from 1,000 sq ft.”

Founded in 2004 mxData Group has become a leading provider of live and location based mobile services. Millions of people have downloaded the company’s transport information applications, which include the award winning Tube Map, New York Subway Map, Bus London and myTrains.
