Pugh & Company's September auctions in the North generated more than £10.4m in total sales, with 70% of all lots sold.

Properties sold at Pugh's Manchester sale included a former St John's Ambulance building in North Wales, which raised £95,000. Sold on behalf of Conwy County Borough Council, its guide price was £35,000.

Other Manchester sales included the Old Workshop in Clitheroe, Lancashire, which had a guide price of £10,000 and sold for £57,000.

Pugh's Liverpool lots included a former cemetery depot sold on behalf of Wirral Council for £48,000. It had a guide price of £20-25,000.

A former Citizen's Advice Bureau office and vacant day care centre were also sold on behalf of Wirral Council at the Liverpool auction.

Paul Thompson, auctioneer and director at Pugh & Co, said: "Our September commercial and residential lots proved to be the most successful of the year so far in terms of pre-auction sales and packed out auction venues resulted in a fantastic £10.4m total sales figure from our venues across the North.

"The demand for great investment and development properties is ever increasing and more buyers are flocking to auction to benefit from the quicker completion timescale and security of sale."
