Allied London signs international restaurant to Spinningfields rooftop

Allied London has announced London-based D&D as the operator of the restaurant and garden terrace being built on top of No.1 Spinningfields, the 20-storey office currently under construction in Manchester city centre.

The global operator is known for brands including Bluebird, Quaglino’s and German Gymnasium in London, Alcazar in Paris and Guastavino’s in New York. The restaurant at No.1 Spinningfields will be its first in Manchester.

Completing in 2017, No.1 Spinningfields is a 260,000 sq ft commercial building, and is the final piece in the Spinningfields masterplan. Office occupiers that have signed pre-let deals in the tower so far are include accountant PwC and law firm Squire Patton Boggs.

D&D’s 9,500 sq ft No.1 Spinningfields rooftop restaurant and bar will have a large outdoor garden terrace area with panoramic views over the city.

Michael Ingall, Allied London’s chief executive, said: “No.1 Spinningfields has been designed to be a world class environment in every facet of the building. D&D is the perfect operator for this space and a game-changer for Spinningfields and Manchester. With numerous superb operations in London as well as restaurants in Paris, New York and Tokyo, and two Michelin stars, D&D is a quality operation in every sense of the word.

“No.1 Spinningfields is one of the finest and most highly specified commercial buildings in Manchester and the UK and our partnership with D&D is aligned to its brand. If you are going to develop a building of this level of quality, you must be brave enough to go beyond the market to source the very best.”

This will be D&D’s first restaurant in Manchester, it’s fourth in the UK outside London and is due to open in autumn 2017.
