Adam Higgins

Alliance director quits to go it alone

Adam Higgins is to leave Property Alliance Group to set up his own business, Capital Properties, focusing on the food retail and hotel sectors.

During his three years with David Russell's Alliance, Higgins worked on the £35m Axis office tower joint venture with Development Securities, as well as the recent land deal for a 35,000 sq ft Sainsbury's in Todmorden town centre and a new 193-bed hotel for Premier Inn in central Manchester which is due on site this month.

Higgins said: "I've enjoyed working with David and he has always known of my ambition to set up a new property company from scratch. Last summer I decided the time was right to make the move and I have been finishing off one or two deals with Alliance before setting up Capital. The company will very much focus on the food retail and hotel sectors initially, both of which have remained resilient over recent years and still have great growth potential to come."

Higgins worked at Peel Group and Ask Developments prior to joining Alliance, based in Trafford Park.

Russell said: "In a difficult market Adam has produced significant profit for the Group and I wish him well. Alliance remains very ambitious and we are already talking with Adam about one or two opportunities which fit well within our broader proposals to significantly expand the Alliance Group."

It’s not going to be easy starting a new property company at the moment but I admire his ambition, we need more property people to do similar, that would kick start the North West recovery!

Good on him, too many developers are suffering with a backlog of overpriced acquisitions from 3 years ago – these new development companies won’t have that worry and should be agile enough to unlock deals that big property companies haven’t the time or appetite to consider

it’s a brave move, he must know something we don’t! a word of caution, contrary to what many think, foodstores and hotels aren’t quick or easy to fund, they take a long time and a lot of leg work, then again, from what the article says he’ll know that already, i wish him all the best.
