Airport parking scheme to be considered by planners

Simon Donohue

A planning application for a 9,000 space long-stay car park on former green belt land near Manchester Airport is due to be considered by Manchester City Council.

Manchester Airports Group proposes a development on land off Styal Road and Shadowmoss Road.

The development includes "associated environmental mitigation including landscaping, lighting and residents car parking spaces and car parking facilities for users of Metrolink and aeroplane spotters".

A report to Manchester City Council's planning department says that the application site covers approximately 28 acres and is made up of a number of fields that have previously been leased for grazing purposes.

Comments about the application include concerns about destruction of green space, traffic concerns and parking problems.

The planning committee is recommended to approve planning permission.
