Air cargo firm takes 145,000 sq ft at Manchester Airport

Air service provider Dnata has agreed a deal for a £30m, purpose-built facility at the airport, due to be built by contractor McLaren.

The 145,000 sq ft facility, designed by RPS, will include 20,000 sq ft of office space and is being developed by MAG Property at the airport’s World Freight Terminal. It will have the capacity to handle 150,000 tonnes of cargo per year.

McLaren is the contractor, and is set to hand over the project next summer. It will be built on a brownfield site, formerly an aircraft hangar. MAG Property was advised by CMS on its deal with Dnata advised by Gowlings and Lambert Smith Hampton.

Jonathan Haigh, MAG Property managing director, said: “The scale of Dnata’s ambition and longevity of commitment rightly called for our assembly of this prime site and for a suitably impressive scheme to fully exploit its potential. From masterplanning to transaction execution, it’s been a great example of how we blend our airport operations knowledge with real estate development expertise and work hard and with skill for our customers.

“Together with our dedicated professional and principal contactor team we are thrilled to progress to the delivery phase.”

Earlier this year, a joint venture between Dnata and LSG Sky Chefs named Alpha LSG signed up for a 102,500 sq ft unit at the nearby Icon development, being brought forward by Stoford and TPG Real Estate.
