Adlington, a branch of Gladman Group, has set out plans to build a retirement apartment complex on a site formerly used by the NHS on Cowley Hill near St Helens town centre.
Existing buildings on the site were formerly home to NHS offices for the area health authority, but are currently being demolished after falling into disrepair and becoming subject to vandalism.
Adlington is now planning to build a three-storey primarily brick-clad retirement living complex, designed to blend in with the Victorian villas that sit around the site.
The development will be in a rough L-shape, stepped due to the change in elevation on the site, with parking spaces and access to the site’s Rutland Street frontage.
This will feature 75 apartments, including a mix of 27 one-beds, 41 two-beds, five three-beds, and two penthouses.
There will also be a residents’ lounge, a table-service restaurant, hair salon, spa, and a guest suite, as well as landscaped areas for residents, particularly to the rear of the development which backs on to Victoria Park.
If approved by St Helens Council, the project will be Adlington’s latest apartment scheme in the region, following a £12m development in Southport. This features 38 two-beds, nine one-beds and eight three-beds and is currently under construction by contractor Bardsley.
Other projects the developer is bringing forward include The Bridges in Macclesfield, and The Chimes in Cheadle, a 48-home apartment scheme, due to complete in early 2019.
