£1m flexible beauty salon workspace opens in Manchester

American-based Phenix Salon Suites is making its UK debut with approximately 6,000 sq ft of space at No 1 Deansgate.

Phenix Salon Suites signed a ten-year lease for its space. It includes 29 studios in the building that hairstylists, massage therapists, nail techs, skincare experts and makeup artists can rent out from Phenix on a month-to-month lease that includes utilities. Each unit can be personalised and each comes with basic equipment, such as a styling chair and sink. Tenants also have access to a break room, kitchen area and laundry room.

Already more than 50% of the salon suites have been leased.

“In what has been a really tough year for both the industry and the self-employed, our team has made a £1 million investment in Manchester to allow entrepreneurs in hair and beauty to create something of their own,” said John Gillespie, operations director of the UK and Europe for Phenix Salon Suites.

Gillespie said that Manchester was chosen to be the first UK location as it is “a leader in the hair and beauty industry”. With an abundance of creatives and entrepreneurs, he added that the city felt like the right home for the company.

“We know how hard it is to set up a salon from scratch, and even more so when it comes to finding something affordable in the middle of an incredible city like Manchester,” he continued. “There are already over 300 Phenix venues in the USA so we know this model works.

Colliers and Sixteen Real Estate were the agents on the deal.
