The computer-generated images show the boutique library, described as an ‘adult space’, the ground floor entrance foyer and the first floor foyer and library pod.

The borough’s new cultural centre is intended to become a venue for theatre, music, dance, literary events and cinema.

Located in the former Odeon cinema, a grade 2-listed Art Deco building, the centre will feature a library, theatre, studio, cinema and café spaces.

The centre will be managed by Chester Performs, the city’s combined arts producer behind Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre Company, the Chester Music Festival, the Moonlight Flicks outdoor cinema season and the Chester Literature Festival. Chester’s cultural centre is funded by Cheshire West & Chester Council with support from Arts Council England.

Gary Watts, Head of Innovation at MBNA, said: “The Innovation Wall will be fantastic opportunity to use the expertise of our technology partners to create an exciting installation that will generate a buzz with visitors of all ages. It will combine art and technology in a way that most of us usually only see on television or in films, so we’re excited to be bringing something very special to life.”

The building was designed by Bennetts Associates, and supported by Warrington-based Ellis Williams Architects during project delivery.
