New teaching block planned for Wigan college

St John Rigby College in Orrell has ambitions to build 7,200 sq ft of classrooms, including one which can be transformed into a mock hospital ward and courtroom.

Plans submitted to Wigan Council also include six IT suites, which will help the college work towards the aim of increasing its IT provision, as pupils become more reliant on technology-based learning.

The new learning spaces will be instrumental in allowing the college to deliver its T-Level courses, by providing specialist equipment.

Plans show the proposed block located on a half-acre plot between three established teaching blocks, fronting the Gathurst Road end of the college.

The gross internal floor area is expected to be 4,413 sq ft for the ground floor level and 2,777 sq ft for the first-floor level.

Proposed materials for the development include brick and metal cladding. The building will also feature a green roof.

The architect and planning consultant working on the project are 10architect. Other companies working on the project are AA Projects, Waterman and SWF Consultants.
