New hotel for Whitehaven harbour

A new 90-bedroom hotel and apartments could form part of Magnus Homes' The Park/Mark House development at Whitehaven's harbour – but only if Magnus Homes is able to convince a local pub to relocate.

Negotiations are currently taking place between Carlisle-based developers Magnus Homes and Punch Taverns, which owns the John Paul Jones pub, which would have to be demolished in order for the hotel and apartments to be built.

The two companies are in discussion over whether an alternative site within the new development could be provided to Punch Taverns. One suggestion is for Punch Taverns to open a pub on the nearby former Pears House site, another Magnus Homes development, on which there is to be 35 apartments, retail, and office development.
