New Bailey public realm sketched

English Cities Fund, a joint venture between Salford City Council, Muse Developments and Homes England, has selected landscape architect Re-Form to create an area of public realm next to the 293,000 sq ft Four New Bailey, for which plans were submitted last week.

The latest New Bailey office building, tipped to house the longstanding requirement of telecommunications firm BT, would stand at 12 storeys and the area of public realm would connect the office with the River Irwell in Salford.

As part of the project, Stanley Street, which feeds into the development from New Bailey Street, would be reconfigured to include a shared surface for vehicles and pedestrians.

“The aim is to create a coherent public realm environment that forms a strong relationship with the local urban context, the river that forms an edge to this development and the proposed building,” a planning statement from consultant DPP Planning said.

The public realm would also include seating areas and planting at ground level as well as trees, according to the planning application lodged with Salford City Council.
