Neville signs at Central Street for Mahiki

Gary Neville has confirmed that he is to bring the Mahiki nightclub to Manchester, signing a 20-year lease on a 4,437 sq ft unit at One Central Street, off Albert Square.

Set to open in spring 2017, Mahiki Manchester will be the third in the group, following openings in London and Dubai.

Neville, who Place North West understands to be a joint venture partner in the Mahiki Manchester project, said: “Mahiki already has fantastic venues in world class cities so we are delighted to bring a club of this calibre to Manchester in a great location such as the Albert Estate.”

The venue will feature the group’s standard tiki décor.

The building forms part of the 100,000 sq ft Albert Estate portfolio owned by the London-based LJ Partnership, which has invested £28m in acquiring and refurbishing the buildings.

Other assets within the estate include the Northern Assurance Buildings, the Victoria Buildings, 2 Mount Street and St Andrew’s Chambers. In October, LJ acquired Canada House for a further £10.5m.

Design and fit-out teams are yet to be appointed for the Mahiki scheme. OBI Property advised on the transaction.

Neville’s further interests in the city include Hotel Football close to Old Trafford, the former Stock Exchange building in Norfolk Street and the proposed £150m St Michael’s project in Jackson’s Row.

London’s Mahiki was opened in 2005 by Piers Adam, Nick House and David Phelps and is renowned as a favoured haunt of celebrities.
