Mullberry tries again to expand at Wango Lane

Blackburn-based developer Mullberry Homes has moved to increase the size of its Aintree residential development by 10 units, two years after it won approval from Sefton Council for 43 homes on the 4.6-acre site. 

A fresh application for 53 detached, semi-detached and terraced homes on land bounded by Wango Lane to the south, the River Alt to the north and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal to the east, has been validated by the council.

Mullberry is now exploring the option of expanding on the extant consent, according to its director Alistair Wilcock.

It is the second time this year that the developer has sought to add units to the scheme, after lodging an application for 48 homes in March. The council is yet to make a decision on that application. 

Prior to the scheme’s original approval in October 2018, local residents lodged a petition, leading to the council objecting to the development due to concerns over flooding, traffic congestion and access.

The professional team on the project includes VTC as the transport planner and CGMS as the heritage consultant. 

Michael Lambert Associates carried out a flood assessment of the site. 

Mullbury Homes is a different company to Lymm-based Mulbury Homes, which is building several other schemes in the North West.
