Mulbury teams up with Great Places, makes two hires

The residential developer has agreed terms with Great Places Housing Group to deliver 57 affordable homes in Hollingworth, and announced two senior appointments.

Mulbury will redevelop the former Organ public house in Market Street, which closed in 2015, into five apartments, while the rest of the 3.6-acre derelict site will accommodate 52 two-, three- and four-bedroom homes.

The £7.3m development, consented in November, will comprise a mix of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses, with 21 homes from the scheme being made available by Great Places for shared ownership, and the remaining 36 for affordable rent.

Helen Spencer, director of development at Great Places, said: “The mixed-tenure site will offer choice for customers, and we expect it to prove popular.”

PWA Planning advised Mulbury on the planning application and the scheme was designed by GTD. The development is expected to complete in autumn 2022. Mulbury expects to deliver 455 new homes for registered housing providers in the current financial year.

The company is in expansion mode, adding two experienced professionals to its management team.

Nigel Pearce, who joins as commercial manager, had been running his own development and construction consultancy for the last 15 months, and was previously North West commercial manager for GMI Construction. Prior to this he was commercial manager at Bardsley Construction .

Mulbury has also appointed Richard Battersby as buying manager, a newly created role for the company focusing on group buying deals as well as managing the expanding buying team.

Battersby was previously group supply chain manager for McGoff Construction for three-and-a-half years and worked as a senior buyer for Persimmon Homes.

Greg Mulligan, director of Mulbury, said: “Nigel and Richard are both enormously experienced in the construction sector and will offer our team invaluable skills and experience at a time when our housebuilding activity across the North West continues to grow.

“We are currently live on 11 sites in the region and have six starts scheduled early in the new year. Our strong pipeline of projects means we enter 2021 with real confidence. Our recruitment drive will continue over the next few months.”

Mulbury is currently on site for registered providers including Great Places Housing Group, Torus and One Vision Housing. The business is also delivering its own open market developments under its Mulbury Living brand in Boothstown, Salford.

Mulbury recently gained planning consent for three schemes in Manchester’s New Cross totalling almost 400 homes and is advancing a 1,000-home scheme near St Helens.
