Mulbury starts on £11m Shaw homes

The residential developer is building 65 affordable homes to be operated by housing association Great Places, in a project to redevelop an “eyesore” former industrial site in Oldham. 

The £11m scheme, plans for which were lodged in March, will occupy the five-acre former P&D Northern Steels site off Moss Hey Street. 

Greg Mulligan, co-founder and director at Mulbury, said: “These homes provide a solution for what had become a local eyesore, and the site’s location will make it a great place to live. 

“[The project ] is part of our ambitious plan set in 2019 to build 3,000 new homes in the region over the next five years.” 

Plans for the development were approved by Oldham Council in June and Mulbury has pencilled completion of the project for June 2022. 

The scheme will provide 34 homes for shared ownership and 31 for affordable rent. The homes will be a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom terraced, semi-detached and detached properties.

As part of the development, a new access road will be created off Moss Hey Street.  

Steel stockholder P&D Northern Steels has relocated to Woodstock Distribution Centre in Royton.
