Morgan Sindall starts on roadworks at £1bn Paddington Village

A six-week closure of Liverpool’s Irvine Street and Upper Mason Street has started as roadworks get under way to connect the £1bn Paddington Village development to the city’s wider network.

The contractor will work on connecting sewers for the development for the next six weeks, with works running from today to 9 September. Alternative routes in the area will be via Wavertree Road, Marmaduke Street, and Edge Lane.

The works come as a number of projects at the £1bn Paddington Village are now moving forward at pace, with contractor Kier set to deliver a £28m college and student accommodation centre for Kaplan by September next year.

Elsewhere on the site, Interserve has begun works on a £35m cancer centre for Proton Partners International, while Morgan Sindall’s site clearance works to make way for The Spine, a Northern headquarters for the Royal College of Physicians, are also progressing.

Future phases could provide further office, commercial and educational space, while the site has also been mooted for a potential maths college run by the University of Liverpool.

Cllr James Noakes, Liverpool City Council’s cabinet member for transport and highways, said: “Paddington Village is an important regeneration scheme that will bring a wealth of new industries and new jobs to the city.

“There will be disruption and delay caused by these roadworks, however they are absolutely essential to the development of the Knowledge Quarter and Liverpool as a city.
