Mixed fortunes for Cheshire housing schemes

Taylor Wimpey and Vistry were given approval to build almost 700 homes across a pair of projects, while Muller Property Group’s plans for 160 homes were rejected by Cheshire East Council.

At Glebe Farm in Middlewich, Taylor Wimpey was granted permission to build 390 homes on a 40-acre site south of Booth Lane.

The housebuilder acquired the site from Willsgrove Developments in 2021 after the previous owner had won outline consent for a 405-home scheme in 2018.

In Lyme Green south of Macclesfield, Vistry won planning permission to build 306 homes on 56 acres of Gaw End Lane.

The site was previously designated as Green Belt but was removed in 2017 when Cheshire East adopted its local plan.

Outline planning permission for a residential development on the site, located next to Lyme Green Retail Park, was approved in 2017.

Finally, Crewe-based Muller Property Group was unsuccessful in its bid to have plans for 160 homes on a 17-acre site of Old Mill Road in Sandbach.

A report to the council’s planning committee said the authority had “undertaken a Building for Life Assessment, which finds that the proposed development does not result in the creation of a high quality, beautiful and sustainable place.”
