MIPIM | Alderley Park targets 2019 for 150,000 sq ft refurb
Work is on schedule for completion in January on the £28m redevelopment of the former oncology research buildings cluster within the Alderley Park campus, a project that will bring 150,000 sq ft of space aimed at tech companies to the Cheshire market.
The building is currently billed as Number 15. Bridge Architects is the designer and Broadley the contractor on a development that brings together long-disused buildings around a new central atrium.
Speaking to Place North West, Tom Renn, managing director of Manchester Science Partnerships, said: “The building had been redundant for years, and our intention is for it to be a counter-balance to the life sciences element of the park, with an offer for technology companies.
“Really, this could just be phase one of a potential 400,000 sq ft expansion of what we can offer at Alderley Park. It will be grade A, with the intelligent spaces, facilities and co-working areas that tech companies need, and a large atrium space for people to hold events and gather.”
Renn addressed a session on the Cheshire & Warrington stand, outlining what Bruntwood has done at the site since taking possession from AstraZeneca, a deal announced at MIPIM in 2014. Alongside the real estate provision, Alderley has seen Bruntwood and MSP develop to financially support start-ups and early stage businesses – 30 companies have been supported by Alderley Park Ventures.
