Minister to outline spending changes at Northern summit
The implications of Alistair Darling's recent Comprehensive Spending Review for regeneration in the north of England will be the focus of the keynote speech at the forthcoming Northern Regeneration Summit in Manchester.
Iain Wright MP, a minister in the Department for Communities and Local Government, will open the summit with a speech designed to explain how the funding outlined in the latest CSR will be released, how changes in the review will be implemented in the North and how the region's economy will be affected.
The Northern Regeneration Summit takes place over two days in Manchester Central, formerly GMEX, and is aimed at bringing together public sector bodies offering development opportunities with private sector investors. It is also intended to attract professional advisers who can turn investment opportunities into completed schemes that benefit both investors and local communities.
Other speakers at the summit will include Baroness Ford of Cunninghame, chairman of English Partnerships; Andy Street, managing director of John Lewis, and Prof Michael Parkinson, director of the European Institute for Urban Affairs at Liverpool John Moores University.
The summit will also feature an exhibition and series of fringe events, comprising specialist regeneration workshops and a property investors' forum. Both the exhibition and the fringe events are free to attend.
