Miller to acquire 100-home North Manchester site

The city council has picked the housebuilder as the preferred bidder for a 6.5-acre site off Hinchley Road in Charlestown.

Miller Homes is preparing to lodge a planning application for the site’s redevelopment, which will feature around 100 homes and 20% affordable provision.

The deal will complete subject to planning and will generate “a considerable capital receipt”, according to a report to Manchester City Council’s resources committee.

Colliers was appointed to market the site for sale last year.

John Hardy, land director at Miller Homes, said: “After a comprehensive tendering process by Colliers on behalf of Manchester City Council, we are pleased to have been selected as preferred developer to deliver high-quality homes on this brownfield site.

“We look forward to working with Manchester City Council and their representatives in progressing the acquisition and planning process over the coming months.”

The acquisition will be Miller’s third in Greater Manchester in recent years. The housebuilder bought the former World of Pets site in Timperley earlier this year and is on site delivering a 228-home development on the Manchester College’s 18-acre Northenden Campus after acquiring the site from LTE Group.

Manchester recently announced two more sites being put up for disposal: Church Street car park in the Northern Quarter and a vacant 2.8-acre site at Birley Fields next to UKFast’s headquarters.

Like Hinchley Road, both of those sites are earmarked for housing.
