Metacre advances Great Eccleston masterplan

The land promoter’s application for a 40-acre site in Great Eccleston has been submitted to Wyre Council with the development set to include a school, medical centre, employment space, and up to 350 homes.

Metacre’s outline application, which forms part of a wider masterplan for Great Eccleston being brought forward by the council, will feature a mix of housing types, providing up to 350 homes.

There are also plans for a medical centre, convenience store, school, community hall, employment space, and public open areas.

Public consultation took place on the masterplan last year; following feedback, the layout of the community facilities has been rearranged to put these closer together and nearer to the existing village centre. The community hub will cover 5.3 acres and is at the north east of the site.

Around two-and-a-half acres are set aside for employment use with a further 7.7 acres as green infrastructure.

Planning consultant De Pol has now submitted the outline application to the council on behalf of Metacre; the site, which sits south of the A586 and north of Cop Lane, is allocated for development under Wyre’s Local Plan, adopted in February this year, with a minimum of 568 homes to be delivered in the area.

In a separate planning application, De Pol and Metacre have already secured consent for 183 homes to the south of Copp Lane. This is currently being built out by Rowland Homes.

Stephen Glenn of Metacre said: “This site has the potential to deliver an exciting mix of uses to benefit the local community and provide the much-needed new homes that Wyre has to deliver over the next 12 years.

“Together with our planning consultant, we have worked closely with landowners, stakeholders and the local authority, and consulted with the local community, to develop a plan that will best serve residents now and in the future.”

The professional team on the project also includes Baldwin Design.
