McCarthy Stone consults on 48 Macclesfield apartments

Land and buildings at the junction of Union Road could be redeveloped into retirement living accommodation.

With a view to submitting a planning application, McCarthy Stone has launched a consultation today, Monday, August 12, which runs until September 2 and can be accessed at www.mccarthystoneconsultation.co.uk/unionroad.

The plans would represent the regeneration of a brownfield site to deliver apartments with amenities such as a residents’ lounge, guest suite, communal landscaped gardens, and parking provision.

There would also be lift access to all floors along with a mobility scooter charging and storage room.

Ciaran Aldridge, divisional managing director of North, McCarthy Stone said: “Our proposals provide a fantastic opportunity to meet the need for retirement living accommodation in Macclesfield.

“The site is ideally located with public transport links to local shops and amenities nearby, as well as connections across the region.

“Our plans for Macclesfield provide a valuable opportunity to improve the health and well-being of local older people, whilst also supporting significant cost savings to the NHS and local social care services.

“We are pleased to be hosting an online consultation to provide so many people with the opportunity to view our plans and find out more about the scheme.”

McCarthy Stone has pointed to the  Cheshire East Local Plan which sets out the intention to provide a significant number of homes to the borough in order to support economic growth and sustainable development.

Aldridge added: “There is a real need for specialist retirement accommodation in Macclesfield, and this proposal would go some way to addressing that, whilst at the same time releasing existing family homes onto the market and helping to relieve the pressure for local Green Belt release.”

McCarthy Stone already has a presence in Macclesfield, at Kings Scholars Court.
