Maysand to restore Chester walls
Restoration specialist Maysand has been appointed to rebuild part of Chester's city walls.
The Royton-based company, which has previously worked on regeneration projects such as the Port of Liverpool and Dunham Massey Hall, will repair a 30-metre section of the walkway after it collapsed last year.
Work is to start soon on the project, and will take between 32 and 52 weeks, with the final bill costing up to £880,000.
The wall around the collapsed area will be dismantled stone by stone, with each outer stone being engraved with a reference number and catalogued, in order to allow an exact rebuild. The inside of the walls will also be examined for items of interest.
The contract has been awarded by Chester Renaissance on behalf of Cheshire West and Chester. Maysand will also be working with Gifford Structural Engineering.
