Maryport receives £2m facelift
A £2m public realm project has begun in the west Cumbrian town of Maryport in a bid to improve access into and around the town.
The works, which have been funded through the North West Development Agency's Land Reclamation programme, will see cycleways and footpaths created across Maryport to link its attractions as part of a £32m project to regenerate the town over six years.
A new cycleway will link the railway station to the new Wave visitor centre, and the town's promenade will also be improved for cyclists, wheelchairs and pushchairs, as well as being extended to Allonby.
Access to Maryport Marine will also be improved, and landscaping to screen the Glasson Industrial Estate will be created.
Workington-based building contractor Stobbarts is carrying out the work, which is expected to be completed in 20 weeks.
