Manchester unveils MIPIM 2023 programme

Innovation, sustainability, inclusivity, and smart growth are four ‘golden threads’ that carry through the sessions planned at the Manchester stand at the international property conference in March.

Generation Manchester is the theme of the region’s programme at MIPIM. Those visiting the stand on La Croisette in Cannes can expect to learn about the long-term ambitions of Greater Manchester and the innovations and social value goals in place to help them be achieved.

Among the panel sessions announced include two from Place North West: a discussion on how to jumpstart the delivery of 15-minute cities at 4pm on March 15 and a debate on how to best level up within Greater Manchester at 4pm on March 16. Both will be followed by informal drinks receptions.

Speakers for the 15-minute cities panel include Civic Engineers founding director Stephen O’Malley, Muse regional director Phil Mayall, Layer Studio landscape architect and director Matthew Warner, and DRMM cofounding director Professor Sadie Morgan OBE. The session will be chaired by Place North West editor Julia Hatmaker.

Thursday’s levelling up panel will include Paul Dennett, Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester and Mayor of Salford. Joining Dennett on stage will be Wigan Council chief executive Alison McKenzie-Folan, Rochdale Council director of economy Mark Robinson, and Savills director Jeremy Hinds. Place senior reporter Dan Whelan will chair the session.

Other sessions at the Manchester stand will focus on Factory International, concretene, and the wants and needs of Generation Alpha – those born in the late 2010s.
