Manchester Holiday Inn in line for expansion
An extra 24 rooms would be added to the 15-year-old Oxford Road hotel under plans lodged by owner Heeton.
Heeton, which acquired the hotel for £17.3m in 2016, has submitted a proposal to extend the Holiday Inn upwards by two storeys, citing increased demand for rooms.
The 12,200 sq ft extension would increase the number of rooms in the hotel from 147 to 171.
Two of the extra 24 rooms would be accessible. The extension has been conceived as “a heavily articulated metal shroud that will act as a crown to the existing building”, according to planning documents.
Stephenson Hamilton Risley Studio, which designed the original hotel, is leading on design and planning.

Earlier this year, Manchester City Council approved plans for a similar project. KE Hotels secured approval to add an extra three storeys and 54 bedrooms to the Moxy Hotel in Spinningfields.
Let’s hope they can work out how to move the reception out of the basement, as the entrance layout is flawed. Nice hotel otherwise.
