Maggie’s Oldham heads regional RIBA winners
Six buildings have been recognised for their architectural excellence by RIBA North West, with dRMM’s cancer care project at Royal Oldham Hospital taking the North West Building of the Year prize.
The RIBA Regional Awards were announced at One Fine Day in Liverpool last night, following visits by the judging panel to nine shortlisted buildings in April.
Maggie’s Oldham taking the Building of the Year means that the top award has now gone to a Maggie’s centre twice in a row, following the success of the Robert Parfett Building in Manchester by Foster + Partners in 2017.
RIBA North West jury chairman Adam Khan said: “The award winners all display quality and innovation, and from their wide variety a couple of themes emerge – an innovative adaptation to new conditions and constraints and a significant consideration of wider public realm.”
Andrew Ruffler, RIBA North West regional director, said: “Once again we have identified a high quality shortlist in the region, and all of the shortlisted practices should be commended.
“From a North West perspective, we are delighted to see a home-grown small practice in Architectural Emporium win awards for its work in Salford for Walk the Plank, and we hope that this is a trend which continues in future years, with up and coming practices recognised for their high quality work right across the region.”
