Luxury EV brand eyes Manchester expansion
Genesis Motor UK is in talks with landlord M&G about opening a showroom on New Cathedral Street in the unit currently occupied by Ted Baker.
Last week, Manchester City Council approved a planning application from luxury electric car brand Genesis to convert the three-storey shop into a car showroom.
The New Cathedral Street showroom would be Genesis’ third UK site and first outside London. The company currently has sites in Shepherd’s Bush and Battersea.
Genesis’ showrooms aim to provide “experiential learning spaces, which aim to educate the public about the brand”, according to a planning statement submitted by consultant Pegasus Group.
All of the company’s sales are conducted online with cars delivered directly to customers’ homes.
Ted Baker moved into the New Cathedral Street unit in 2003. The company, which has concessions in Selfridges and House of Fraser, declined to comment when approached by Place North West.
Genesis and M&G also declined to comment.
Nice cars, but very expensive…

A car showroom on major shopping street will kill designer retail.Landlords seem determined to destroy the city as upmarket retail destination.
