The Government has announced the regional allocations for the first year of its five-year £250m Pothole Action Fund, with 22 councils in the North West sharing £6.4m out of a national total of £50m.
The Government this morning awarded the two North of England rail franchises with a promise to spend £1.2bn on improvements to services over the next 10 years.
The North West will benefit from four local transport schemes aimed at cutting carbon emissions.
Stobart Group has reported a strong performance across the group despite a challenging market for transport within its interim results for the six months to September.
The Highways Agency said it will spend more than £9m on safety and other improvements along the M62 motorway around Warrington.
Stobart said revenue from continuing operations had increased by 11.8% to £500.4m for the 12 months ended 28 February 2011.
