Sisk starts Rochdale’s lynchpin highways project 

The £15m rail project, aimed at plugging a significant connectivity gap in the west of Greater Manchester, is among several transport projects listed to receive a share of £69m from the Government. 

An outline business case for a £35m package of projects on the key South Manchester route is being prepared for submission to the Department for Transport in March.

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority aims to sign off a final plan to improve air quality in the city region by this summer ahead of a proposed 2022 rollout, despite a lack of clarity on funding.

Proposals to improve the performance and punctuality of the city-region’s creaking rail network have been unveiled for consultation, with the best of three options set to be rolled out from May 2022.

The local authority has asked for road exemptions and support for its bus providers, in response to a consultation on Greater Manchester's proposed Clean Air Zone.

Network Rail will undertake improvements to Macclesfield and Atherton stations in the first quarter of next year.

The money from the Government’s Active Travel Fund, intended to support interventions to encourage walking and cycling, will help fund the construction of a city centre ‘Triangle’ system and a five-mile foot and cycle route in Wythenshawe.  

Two national brands have agreed pre-lets for retail space, while the Ritz car park and former Greenhale House residential plots have buyers standing by, according to a council report.

Transport for Greater Manchester is conducting a further consultation following one last year on plans to franchise the city’s bus network, to assess whether the pandemic has changed people’s minds.
