Lancashire academy invests in facilities

Accrington & Rossendale College is to spend £1m creating a FIFA certified pitch at its football academy on the Broad Oak campus.

Phase one of the project will deliver a FIFA 2 star-certified pitch and the second phase will see a pavilion added, making the football facilities among the most advanced in the county.

Stephen Carlisle, college principal, explained: "We have one of the best football academies of any

college in the county and that has been shown through our results. Now they'll be able to play on one of the most advanced pitches in the UK which will be a huge benefit for our new intake of students in September 2011.

"It should be said, however, that this is also a great facility for the entire community and we will ensure it is enjoyed, not only by our talented students, but by local schools, football clubs and other groups who will benefit from the investment."

Building of the 100m x 63m pitch will be completed by Easter 2011 with the pavilion being finished by the summer.
