Livesey to restore Mostyn House

The derelict Mostyn House School buildings overlooking the River Dee in Parkgate on the Wirral peninsula are to be saved by heritage developer PJ Livesey.

Manchester-based Livesey will hold an open day next Thursday 6 December at the school to present its plans to residents and businesses.

Subject to planning approval, Livesey will convert the listed buildings and develop new homes on the former playing fields to the rear, which face existing housing development.

Livesey has already applied for permission to remove the damaged roof and fill in the swimming pool to allow safe access for works.

The co-educational private day school opened in 1855 and was run by the Grenfell family for most of its life until it closed in July 2010. Sir Wilfred Grenfell, a famous medical missionary to Newfoundland and Labrador, was born in Parkgate and was a pupil at the school.

The open day is due to take place on Thursday 6 December from 2.30pm to 7pm, in the main dining hall of Mostyn House School, accessed from Grenfell Park, off Station Road, Parkgate.

Lets hope its something tasteful! Parkgate is a little hidden gem! Great for a nice day out and a stroll!

Well this little hidden gem is faced with a dense housing development at its core

I wouldn’t exactly describe the proposed houses on Grenfell Park as being ‘at the core’ of Parkgate. The houses will mainly be visible if you’re in one of them! The proposals show that Parkgate Road and The Parade will remain untouched and certainly safer as far as Mostyn House wall is concerned.
