Liverpool hosts Northwest Tourism Awards next week

England's Northwest Tourism Awards is being held at St George's Hall in Liverpool next week.

Organised by the North West Development Agency, the award ceremony will be hosted this year by television personality Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

The gala event recognises excellence within the tourism industry and rewards both group and individual achievement over the past year. In addition, regional winners will have the opportunity to represent the North West in the national awards, organised by VisitBritain in April 2009.

A total of 17 awards will be bestowed in Liverpool. Last year, the North West won three Gold awards at the national level, with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall taking the Tourism Website award, Liverpool's 08 Place being named Tourist Information Centre of the Year and Stone Cottage in the Lake District winning the Self Catering category.

Felicity Goodey, chair of Tourism England's Northwest, said: "The Northwest Tourism Awards have set a very high benchmark for the industry over the past few years, with many of our winners going on to triumph at the national awards. We know that we have some of the UK's best tourism businesses here in the region and these awards recognise and reward the leaders in what is a highly competitive industry."

The fifth annual award ceremony is taking place on Wednesday 22 October.
