Liscard office block to be pulled down
Leaseholder Prospect Estates has applied to Wirral Council for permission to demolish Dominick House on St Albans Road.
Once earmarked for apartments, the Liscard office building has fallen into a state of disrepair in recent years.
Prospect Estates had secured backing from Wirral Council in 2020 to convert the office building into flats but the plans did not go anywhere. Last year, the Liverpool ECHO reported that developer the Belgravia Family had been in talks with the council about a similar proposal but those discussions broke down.
It is understood the building has been vacant for around 10 years.
A joint statement from the area’s three ward councillors welcomed the planned demolition, describing it as “good news”.
Councillors Graeme Cooper, Janette Williamson, and James Laing said: “We have long campaigned for something positive to be done with Dominick House, which has been a blight on Liscard for far too long. A new start for the site will help to kick-start Liscard’s long-overdue regeneration.”
The buildings adjacent should be demolished too.

This was not just an office block. This was Dominick house, the only place in Wallasey where unemployed people could sign on the dole and use jobseekers. It was closed deliberately imo and people then had to travel to Birkenhead to sign on. This of course would make it far easier for people to miss appointments and thus lose their benefits. The building has also been deliberately left to rot with minimum effort to protect it from windows being smashed. The plan was always managed decline. Please do a little research.

Here we go again. Wirral Council is hopeless.
More Flats??.,what about enticing Big Stores to get involved .More families are being encouraged to live in Liscard but we need Stores. Not groceries, but shoe shop would be good,a haberdashery would be great,even M+S.
something like that..Years ago Liscard was full of shops and really busy.I know they have stalls one or two days a week but we need more than that.
Ask the people of Liscard what they need,instead of councillors just sitting around tables discussing what they want.
We will wait and see what transpires after all of their waffling on. What about bringing back a bank into the mix.

@ Mrs Kirby, what big stores will come to Liscard? If they wanted to be there they would be there now.
The best use for this land would be apartments, which would mean more people living near the shopping centre thus bringing more footfall to the current shops, cafes, and bars.
