L&G tables industrial overhaul with potential for 280,000 sq ft data centre
A 175,000 sq ft industrial unit is the other option being considered for an eight-acre site in Trafford Park currently occupied by GXO and owned by the BMW pension fund.
L&G, which asset manages the site for BMW, has submitted a hybrid application seeking full permission to knock down the site’s existing 123,000 sq ft shed and outline consent for either an industrial unit of a 280,000 sq ft, 36MW data centre.
The ultimate direction of the scheme will be determined by market forces.
The industrial unit option would generate more jobs. A fact reflected in the number of proposed car parking spaces – 156 – compared to the data centre – 51.
The industrial scheme would also provide 20 HGV parking spaces and 20 dock levellers.
