Legat Owen’s Peter Johnston dies

The company’s managing director of 35 years died last week at the age of 70.

A statement from Legat Owen’s directors said Johnston had remained fully committed to life and work despite being diagnosed with cancer in 2018.

“He was on the phone to his clients right to the end,” the statement said.

“His courteous manner, sage advice, and fatherly nature marked him out as a statesman and a gentleman.”

Johnston started his career in London before moving back to his hometown of Liverpool in the 1980s where he joined Sykes Waterhouse Commercial.

It was here that he met Nick Legat and Peter Owen, who would go on to establish Legat Owen, as well as director Sue Harris.

The company statement said: “Peter possessed an enormous capacity for work, and was known for his straightforward but considered approach – always putting his client first whilst remembering the human touch in every deal.

“Along with his family and work, his other passion was Liverpool Football Club – and many clients, colleagues, and friends will fondly recall the famous Chinese banquet enjoyed with him prior to a game.”

Johnston leaves his wife Helen, daughter Heather, son Robert, and son-in-law James.

Rest In Peace Dear Man God Bless .

A top man; funny, clever, good company and a shrewd property brain. He battled his condition by having more fun and working harder. He outlived the doctors’ initial predictions by many years as a result. RIP.
