Large-scale Macclesfield housing plan approved
Plans for a new residential, retail and employment development on a 135-acre site in South Macclesfield have been approved by Cheshire East Council.
The project, proposed by the council’s development company Engine of the North and landowner TG, includes 950 homes, a primary school, 40,000 sq ft of neighbourhood retail, 5,380 sq ft of offices and 100,000 sq ft of warehousing.
The site between Congleton Road and London Road is allocated for development within Cheshire East Council’s adopted Local Plan.
Cllr Jamie Macrae, chairman of Engine of the North, said: “We are pleased that the strategic planning board was minded to grant planning permission for the South Macclesfield Development Area. This is a significant step forward to realising our ambition to create a sustainable community in a quality environment, delivering new homes and employment for the borough.”
The application includes a £19.5m link road between Congleton Road and London Road, partially using Moss Lane. Although the main development area is mostly taken up by scrubland, demolition of some existing structures including a reclamation yard will be required.
The planning approval is subject to the completion of the Section 106/111 agreement.
The application was submitted by PJ Planning. Consultants on the scheme also include WYG and PSD Agronomy.
