Lancashire freight depot opens
Surefreight has opened a £1.3m depot in Heysham with the aim of improving business opportunities to and from Peel Ports Mersey.
The logistics company for haulage, storage and distribution opened the Lancashire depot on Saturday 2 September, which covers 130,680 sq ft and offers driver facilities. The site is one mile from Heysham Port and located at the end of the new £130m M6 link road, connecting the port directly to junction 34 of the M6.
Surefreight’s Brian McManus said: “This investment is very much part of our overall strategic distribution plan to add value for our customers and, of course, to people in the local area.”
Nick Ridehalgh, port director said: “The Heysham Port offers a fast and efficient route to the Irish Sea, catering to a number of daily sailings. A key partner for Surefreight is Seatruck. These firms have developed a special relationship, after having worked together at the port for over 20 years. This recent investment underlines the haulage firm’s commitment to one of its most valued customers.”
Peel Ports owns and operates six of the UK’s ports including Liverpool, Manchester Ship Canal and Heysham.
