Lake District hotel set for £7m makeover

The Swan Hotel and Spa, on the banks of the River Leven in Newby Bridge, is to upgrade and grow its spa offering and create 30 more bedrooms, after secured funding for the project.

The £7m refurbishment package was brokered through CBRE Global Investors.

The hotel has existing spa facilities but the refurbishment aims to enhance this offering, tapping into a growing demand for spa resorts in the Lake District, according to its managing director, Sarah Gibbs.

The upgraded spa will include a hydrotherapy pool, thermal rooms, relaxation areas and treatment rooms as well as a café. The existing pool will be retained and used as a family-friendly swimming pool.

Johnston Parke Interiors has been appointed as interior designer for the scheme. BH Group, which owns the hotel, said it hopes to complete the project by next summer.

The Swan is one of several hotels owned by BH Group, including Hotel Indigo near Manchester Victoria station, Mamucium in Manchester, and the Hampton by Hilton in Blackpool.

James Houlston, managing director of BH Group, said: “The Swan is an established favourite in the Lakes, and this investment gives us the opportunity to build on its success and reach its full potential as a world-class spa resort.”
