Krispy Kreme moves into Heywood
Doughnut retailer Krispy Kreme UK has opened a manufacturing unit at Segro's Heywood Distribution Park, Rochdale, to help increase production as its rolls out its stores.
The company has taken Unit B12H, totalling 5,392 sq ft, on a ten-year lease with a five-year break at an undisclosed sum.
Rob Hunt, chief financial officer of Krispy Kreme UK, says: "This move is the next step for our expansion plans to double the number of stores in the next five years"
Krispy Kreme opened its first UK store in Harrods in 2003. The UK business now has a turnover of £33m. In 2010 it announced plans, backed by funding from Santander, to open 40 new stores by 2015.
The Heywood unit will house a manufacturing line and processing kitchen with the ability to produce 3,000 doughnuts an hour.
