Knowsley permits affordable care flats

McCarthy Stone can now deliver 53 retirement apartments on land off Huyton Lane, formerly home to an ambulance and fire station.

Knowsley Council has approved the application under delegated powers.

The Bright Space Architects-designed scheme will see the demolition of the 3,000 sq ft Huyton Ambulance Station on the site to make way for the three-storey complex. The former Huyton Fire Station, which also sat on the site, was demolished in 2018.

Plans feature 37 one- and 16 two-bedroom apartments for over-60s, all of which will be affordable and available for shared ownership.

There will be 22 car parking spaces provided, including two accessible bays. Mobility scooter storage would also be delivered, with space for five buggies.

Declan Fishwick, business development manager at McCarthy Stone, highlighted that the site is located within an accessible location, where residents can feel part of a shared community and experience a “stronger sense of connection with others, peace of mind, and decreased loneliness.”

He continued: “Exclusively available with shared ownership, the scheme looks to provide local retirees with a more flexible and accessible downsizing choice right in the heart of Huyton, providing the lifestyle you’ve dreamed of without paying the full price for your new retirement home.”

McCarthy Stone submitted the plans for the project in February.

Planning Potential is the planning consultant for the scheme. Also on the project team are transport consultant Paul Basham Associates, landscape architect FDA Landscape, and engineering consultant GGP Consult.

Elsewhere, McCarthy Stone has lodged plans for 54 retirement apartments in Stockport this month.

Glad this is going ahead as this corner site has been available for years and the buddleia has taken control.
Declan Fishwick using slightly exaggerated sales patter there but nevertheless these homes are right next to shops and bus routes,so all in all a win-win.
