Klopp’s Padel FC set to bring nine courts to Wavertree
The former Liverpool FC manager is behind plans to bring the first of his Padel company’s facilities outside of Berlin to Wavertree Sports Park.
Proposals, now lodged by Pegasus Group, following a successful tender process from Liverpool City Council, which will see underused tennis courts at the sports park replaced by a fresh centre for the rising game.
Octo Architects has designed the 31,000 sq ft sustainable facility to provide six indoor and three sheltered open-to-outdoor courts. A café, lounging areas, a shop, and changing rooms are also included.
Pre-application engagement with the city council has smoothed out the planning process, with the project deliberately meeting local policy objectives and prioritising community needs.

The submission of the proposal follows a well-received public consultation.
Padel FC was founded in Berlin by Jurgen and Marc Klopp.
Darren Muir, director at Pegasus, said: “We have really enjoyed working with Padel FC to bring one of Europe’s fastest-growing sports to Liverpool.
“From advising on the tender process, to leading the pre-application engagement and preparation of the planning submission, it has been rewarding to help shape a scheme that makes efficient use of underutilised land while delivering genuine social, economic, and environmental benefits for the city.”
The scheme can be viewed using the reference number 25/F/2537 in Liverpool City Council’s planning portal.

Car parking will be an issue.

This article talks about “public consultation” would it not be beneficial to consult the current users of wavertree facilities? How will the fitness classes and netball be impacted? How better could these facilities support the community? Seems like a tick box exercise if the above steps have not been taken.

This is a padel court and it’s for people who want to pay and play padel, and those taking the financial risk by opening this facility will benefit. It’s a business, like a butchers, a carpet shop, or a gym, so why is there always all this concern about community benefit, or the environment. Ok a few trees planted will benefit the environment but as far as the community is concerned they will choose to go or not. So well done to Klopp and his son for investing their money in a park where some of the previous facilities often looked underused, and this will bring a much needed boost to the location.

Looking forward to having a great new indoor padel facility that the city has been crying out for. Will be keen to encourage local people to get into this really accessible sport, and the courts are affordable for residents

The indoor centre is well used for the purpose of tennis.
It hosts junior international tennis tournaments, All of the indoor cours are used twice by a thriving veterans club
The facilities are regularly used by a group of special needs adults.
By all means build Padel courts on some of the outdoor courts but please do not sacrifice the indoor tennis centre which provides a much needed venue for indoor tennis.
