King Street office to resi approved
Manchester City Council has passed plans submitted by JJB Sports founder Dave Whelan's Huron Properties for the office to residential conversion of 8 King Street into 21 apartments.
HOW Planning submitted the application on behalf of Huron Properties, the owner of the grade-2 listed building which sits within the St Ann's Square Conservation Area.
The approval will allow a major refurbishment of the 7,700 sq ft building to include the conversion of the upper floors from offices into 21 apartments comprising seven one-bed and 14 two-bed flats.
The property currently contains vacant offices situated above a street-level retail offering.
Current retail occupiers include Jaeger, L'Occitane and a number of local, independent retailers, which HOW maintains will be unaffected by the proposals.
Chris Sinton, planner at HOW Planning, said: "We have been able to draw on our extensive heritage experience and comprehensive knowledge of Manchester city centre to ensure the proposals for 8 King Street met national and local planning requirements in order to deliver the highest quality development. The upper floors of this building are currently vacant but it is hoped that work will begin very soon bringing it back to beneficial use."
