John Sisk wins £7m Seacombe contract

Merseytravel has selected the Warrington-based contractor to carry out refurbishment work at the Wallasey stop for the Mersey Ferries. 

The proposal is to revamp the landing stage and booms and at the same time replace both the passenger and the vehicle bridges in a project expected to last nine months.

The landing stage and booms will be removed and taken into dry dock where they will be fully refurbished. 

The project includes the design and installation of two mechanical gangways. 

Once the work is complete Merseytravel anticipates it will be 25 years before the next round of refurbishment work will be required. 

A spokesperson for the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority said: “We’re currently at the early contractor involvement stage of procurement, with the first tranche of funding now having been awarded to the successful bidder.

“The project will see both the bridges which link the terminal as well as the landing stage updated and upgraded. The exact schedule of works is still yet to be determined, with more information to follow.

“These works are in line with our long term plans for the Mersey Ferries, to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy cross-river services.”

The spokesperson added that they were unsure to what extent Seacombe terminal would be operational while the work took place.
