Mode is looking for a Transport Planner to join our Manchester team.
In a nutshell, the person we are looking for will have experience working on development related transport planning projects which includes site appraisals, transport assessments and travel plans. But, more importantly, the person we are looking for will have a desire to find solutions to our client’s transport and highways problems.
We are not looking for someone to churn out the same thing day after day, but for someone who wants to get involved in delivering projects and be a key member of our team. Our approach is for everyone to work closely together to share their ideas, knowledge and views in order to ensure we achieve a successful outcome for our clients.
The type of projects we work on are predominately for private sector clients across a wide range of sectors including commercial, residential, education, retail, leisure and health. This means you will have a varied work stream and will also provide you with the experience required for you to progress with your career.

We can assume that if you are interested in this role you will understand the basics the role requires. As a guide you will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience with some or all of the following:
- Good knowledge of transport planning and highways to support developments projects
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Preparation of Transport Notes, Statements and Assessments, Travel Plans, Site Access Appraisals using Microsoft Office programmes (Word and Excel)
- An understanding of relevant local and national policy and guidance
- Basic junction capacity modelling using the Junctions software (ARCADY and PICADY)
- Preliminary design of access, junction improvements and highway schemes using AutoCAD
- Swept Path Analysis using AutoTrack
- Preparation of graphics using GIS packages and/ or Corel Draw
- Delivering quality work to meet deadlines
Mode is a Director owned business which was started in 2012 in Birmingham. The Manchester office was launched in 2016 and we also have offices in Reading, Oxford and London. The company was created so we can focus on our staff and clients; to be a place where our staff enjoy and feel proud to work and our clients’ come back to us because of the quality of advice they receive.
At present, we have 20 staff working across the business.
The company offers training to develop and grow skills and supports professional qualifications with relevant professional bodies such as CIHT, TPS and ICE. Staff are actively encouraged to develop their professional careers and achieve their career goals.
