Structural engineers launch two-man startup

Ed Dablin and Jonny Yusuf have co-founded DYSE, a specialist structural engineering design and advice company in Manchester.

Dablin was previously at Tony Gee & Partners from June 2015, where he worked as principal engineer. In this role, Dablin was project manager and lead designer for phase five of the TransPennine Express West programme. He also sits on the British executive committee of the International Association of Bridge & Structural Engineering.

Jonny Yusuf was director at BDI Structural Solutions from September 2015 where he worked on Vita student housing in Liverpool. More recently Yusuf was involved in the Northern Quarter’s Red Lion Street homes.  He is currently chair of the Institution of Structural Engineers regional group.

The two-man business will offer expertise in buildings, bridges, civils and temporary works across the region. Dablin and Yusuf will also provide inspection and maintenance services in assessments of existing structures.

Yusuf said: “We’re really excited to launch. The structures we design, build and maintain are becoming ever-more complex. We want to provide a collaborative approach to design, working with like-minded people to deliver the best possible engineered solutions.”

Dablin said: “As a small practice, we can provide a high level of service whilst being focused, nimble and flexible.”

Within the next five years, DYSE plans to develop into a 30-strong team, and has already secured contracts in the rail sector and high-end residential sector.

The pair works out of a Chorlton office but plans to move to city centre within the next few months. Yusuf and Dablin met at the University of Manchester where they both studied Civil and Structural Engineering and graduated together in 2009.
