      Who We Are

      AshtonHale was established in 2023 by Neil Lucas and Richard Barton, who were formally senior directors at Avison Young co-heading its Manchester planning team. AshtonHale was established as a specialist planning consultancy with the aim of using the considerable combined expertise gained over 40+ years and applying it with the nimbleness of an independent practice whose focus is purely on providing the very best service and outcomes for its clients.

      AshtonHale has already developed a reputation for advising on and securing planning permission for complex planning projects in Manchester City Centre, Greater Manchester, and across the country, including tall buildings. These include large regeneration projects such as the Upper Brook Street Masterplan in Manchester (1,700 PBSA beds and 750,000sqft of life science buildings in buildings up to 30 storeys), the Soapworks in Salford (mixed use development of 450 residential units, commercial space and transport hub in buildings up to 33 storeys), Broadbent Moss in Oldham (a strategic site for 1,450 homes, 210,000sqft of employment, and a new Metrolink station), and 227 Wood Lane in Hammersmith (209 co-living units and 60 new affordable homes). Other projects can be viewed on our website: www.ashtonhale.co.uk

      What We’re Looking For

      AshtonHale are looking for a planner with 1-2+ years’ experience in either the private or public sector. We would like you to have an RTPI accredited degree and be on the way to submitting your APC to become a Chartered Planner, if this hasn’t been achieved already.

      Mainly, we are looking for someone who will fit in with our small but social team, is enthusiastic about getting stuck into some complex and high-profile projects and helping to build the business. Whilst we work across the country, we are North-West based and would like employees to be able to come into the Manchester office on a regular basis.

      As a Planner, we would expect you to be working on the following:

      • Working towards and achieving RTPI accreditation (if you haven’t already);
      • Co-ordinating and managing own projects (increasing in size and complexity) in addition to providing assistance to senior colleagues with more complex schemes;
      • Liaising directly with clients, Local Planning Authorities and other stakeholders to achieve optimum outcomes for our clients;
      • Drafting planning documents at various stages of the planning process, including Planning Appraisals, Planning Statements, and Statements of Community Involvement;
      • Devising and implementing community consultation strategies and attending consultation events on behalf of AshtonHale;
      • Networking and socialising with clients, consultants and others in the industry to enhance your professional profile as well as that of AshtonHale;
      • Continuing professional development, developing knowledge of technical disciplines and helping to keep team up to date on latest developments in policy, practice and law;
      • Maintaining commercial and market awareness through staying up to date on developments and activity in the regions that AshtonHale operate; and
      • Mentoring junior colleagues in the future to build their ability and professionalism.

      What We Can Offer

      In exchange, AshtonHale can offer the following:

      • A competitive salary and benefits package;
      • A modern and central office in the ABC Buildings, Quay Street, Manchester City Centre;
      • Support through and funding the APC process as necessary; and
      • The benefits associated with working for a new and fully independent consultancy, including a flexible working environment and input into how the company operates.
