A bit about the role…
Working in an ambitious team currently led by Mike Palin (Interim Director of Cities and Major Conurbations), this role will play a critical part in supporting in the unlocking of housing growth in the in Core Cities, Mayoral Combined Authorities and their surrounding areas.
Our team is part of the Markets Partners Places directorate which leads business development activities for Homes England; acting as the front door for partners to access our skills and products and shaping solutions to deliver a collective, investible, and deliverable development pipeline.
This role will be focussed on working with partners (including local authorities, housing providers, other government departments, consultancies and prospective developers) to harness opportunities that enable land and investment to be unlocked for housing growth.
As we work in urban areas, we have lots of complex and challenging projects to get involved with. Some projects are of such a significant scale and demonstrate market failure that the role will involve working as part of multidisciplinary teams with our colleagues in the Development and Investment directorates.
We are a team with a mix of skills and experience and as such whilst we do have geographic relationship management focus, we work in an agile way, deployed where our skills are needed, to support each other.
We are looking to create a well-rounded skilful team and at present look to those with property and development surveying experience to help us achieve this. The role will have a North of England geographic emphasis but as a flexible organisation we are keen to hear from candidates who may be prepared to work from one of our north-based offices for part of the week, as well as occasionally visit our partners in their localities, maybe whilst living elsewhere in the country.
A bit about you…
You’ll have experience of residential/commercial property development, with an understanding and experience of the tools needed to assess viability, project development and delivery. You’ll understand how to unlock the barriers to development particularly in urban areas.
Ideally you will be educated to degree level, have a property related qualification or be working towards one with relevant experience within the industry.
You’ll demonstrate an awareness and understanding of Governments policies and priorities on housing and the contribution of Homes England to delivering these. As such you will need to think strategically and be politically aware.
You’ll have a commercial and collaborative approach to developing effective relationships with both public and private sector partners and be able to demonstrate you can work with others as part of a team in an inclusive way. You’ll be solution focussed, with a proactive approach to unblocking problems. Ideally you will have first-hand experience of either preparing or commissioning feasibility studies and other development due diligence and will have engaged in the preparation of business cases to secure funding and investment.
You’ll be comfortable working in an agile way, being used to “spinning several plates” at once and will always be looking for ways to improve and innovate. You will enjoy working in an innovative, fun, and engaging way and be able to negotiate and persuade and see your effort come to fruition.
Who are we?
We are the Government’s national housing agency. Our role is to accelerate the pace of housebuilding across the country, particularly in areas where there are the most serious affordability issues – meaning people are struggling to find homes.
We have the appetite, influence, expertise and resources to drive positive market change and meet the Government’s ambition to deliver 300,000 new homes a year. We are using our land, influence, funds and knowledge to increase the pace, scale and quality of new homes accelerating delivery in areas of greatest demand and helping create great places to live. Within the next few years, we will have invested over £27 billion across our programmes. To deliver against these aims we’re building a different kind of public service – join us to help make this happen.
